Make a change with the Lei Thar Gone Family
More than a Guest House: Opened in 2006, Lei Thar Gone supports our nearby Light of Love Private High School (LOL) for over 100 children in need. Your stay at our family run haven helps fund the school and makes you part of our story.
It all started with the vision of Eric Trutwein, owner, CEO and soul of our whole project. He only had vague plans at the beginning, when he returned to his native town Yenangyaung after retirement. Having been away working as an engineer for many years, what he encountered here was bitter poverty and countless destitute children, many orphaned by AIDS. The hopelessness of their circumstances compelled him to action.
Selfless dedication and many years of hard work
In 2002, living in just one room, Eric started looking after thirteen orphans, feeding, caring for and teaching them. Out of these modest beginnings the Light of Love Private High School (LOL) has emerged. Today it is one of the few licensed private schools in the Magway Division. The students pay no school fees, are provided with uniforms, medical care and monthly rations of staple food. Eric’s love for the children and the whole family’s dedication to LOL transform lives and offer hope for the future.
Community based tourism supports children in need
Lei Thar Gone Guest House forms an integral part of the project. Profits from the Guest House are reinvested to finance our Light of Love Private High School (LOL), directly benefitting the children and making a real difference in their lives. This is charitable and sustainable tourism. The Lei Thar Gone Guest House with its 15 rooms and The Gentle Breeze Restaurant today employ a team of twelve local staff members.
During your stay at Lei Thar Gone Guest House you will experience authentic Myanmar hospitality and charming service in a unique location.
Your stay will make YOU part of this story.
